PROCESS OF SELECTION:
Your spot on the team will be determined by…
-Your attitude, attendance, promptness, hustle, sportsmanship, & overall effort.
- Your ability to perform and demonstrate various volleyball skills at a highly competitive JV or Varsity level. Your knowledge of offensive and defensive strategy and fast tempo play on the court (have you progressed & developed since last season?). Freshman level- need to demonstrate various volleyball skills and have knowledge of the game, rotations, etc. Modified level- need to demonstrate various volleyball skills and respond immediately to the coach's feedback.
- Your fitness level: 8:00 mile run along with other physical fitness testing and physical conditioning (You should be in your BEST shape by 8/24- NO EXCUSES). Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
- Your ability to be a POSITIVE, SELFLESS teammate & coachable player who will accept their role on the team.
- Your Mental Toughness- your ability to recover from mistakes and be a disciplined player on and off the court. You can handle hard situations.
- At higher levels- the need for specific positioning on a team.
**Even if you’ve played Shen Volleyball in past seasons at any level, you’re NOT guaranteed a spot on a team. Tryouts are a competitive process and rosters change from year to year.
OTHER IMPORTANT SEASON INFORMATION:
* If selected on a team, plan for continued weekday & Saturday practices & tournaments from August through October (JV) or November (Varsity). Please also expect that our schedule could be modified.

* Coach Kessler will contact you by email or in person to let you know if she would like you to try out at a higher level. Please do NOT email her to ask her.
* Any 7th or 8th grader being asked to try out at Freshman, JV, or Varsity will have to go through an APP testing process. If you are selected, Coach Kessler will contact you with more information.
* You must keep Saturdays and school holidays free during the season for practices & tournaments (please plan college visits and other trips out of season or during weekends off).
* Varsity players- Please plan accordingly for SAT’s and ACT’s so that you are not missing tournaments to take them.
*PLEASE NOTE: ALL players are expected to attend ALL summer & in-season practices. Every MISSED practice/session will result in a match without play!
